What is the Global Technology Summit?

For more than a decade, DLA Piper’s award-winning Global Technology Summit has brought business leaders, visionary technologists, pioneering entrepreneurs, and in-house counsels from leading tech companies together to share insights and analysis into the emerging technology and legal trends affecting businesses today. For the first time, this year’s event will be held virtually, giving participants a front-row seat to candid conversations with some of the tech industry’s top leaders.

Who are this year’s speakers?

This year’s speakers include: General James Mattis, senior counselor at The Cohen Group and distinguished fellow at the Hoover Institution at Stanford University; Nicholas Thompson, chief executive officer of The Atlantic; DJ Patil, head of technology of Devoted Health; Cynthia Bright, deputy general counsel and head of Worldwide Litigation for HP; Keir D. Gumbs, deputy corporate secretary and associate general counsel for Global Corporate, M&A and Securities at Uber Technologies, Inc.; and Jennifer Yokoyama, vice president, chief IP counsel and deputy general counsel for Microsoft Corporation.

What topics will be discussed during the summit?

At this year’s Tech Summit, General James Mattis will discuss leadership in a time of crisis, global trends relevant to US tech companies, and challenges and opportunities for US tech leaders in 2021 and beyond.

Nick Thompson will discuss the future of AI and robotics, privacy, security and cyber-espionage, as well as how the world’s dominant tech companies interact with their customers, while DJ Patil will look at data analytics, the impact of data usage on innovation, tech, and government, and the future of data-centric business.

Finally, we will be joined by several in-house counsel for some of the technology sector’s leading companies. Cynthia Bright of HP, Jennifer Yokoyama of Microsoft, and Keir Gumbs of Uber will discuss how tech companies are advancing racial equality and share their approaches to diversifying outside counsel work.

What are the formats for the sessions?

The Summit features four separate hour-long sessions scheduled over two days, giving attendees the flexibility in their day to have the opportunities to hear from top leaders in the tech industry.  Each session will also include time for audience Q&A.
