Cynthia Bright is Deputy General Counsel and Head, Worldwide Litigation at HP. She leads a team of attorneys who manage all of the company’s complex litigation and government investigations worldwide.

Bright joined HP in 2009 as an IP Litigation Manager. She was asked to lead the IP Litigation team in April 2012. In 2015, the IP Litigation team was selected as one of six teams to receive HP’s President’s Quality Award. In 2015 and 2013, The Recorder named her as one of the top 50 women lawyers in tech.

Before joining HP, Bright was the Director of Litigation for Atmel Corporation, a semiconductor company based in San Jose, California. Prior to joining Atmel, Bright was in private practice at Wilson Sonsini Goodrich & Rosati. Bright graduated from the Georgetown Law Center, and also received her undergraduate degree from Georgetown University.

Keir Gumbs is Vice President, Deputy General Counsel and Deputy Corporate Secretary at Uber Technologies, Inc. Keir leads a team of 33 professionals who support Uber’s executive leadership team in the areas of payments, M&A, finance, real estate and commercial transactions, corporate governance, marketing, ESG, capital markets and related matters. Keir previously led Uber’s Commercial Transaction team.

Prior to joining Uber, Keir Gumbs was a Partner and Co-Chair of the Securities Practice at Covington & Burling, after having served as Counsel to SEC Commissioner Roel C. Campos, where he advised the Commissioner on a variety of matters arising under federal securities law with an emphasis on corporate finance issues under the Securities Act of 1933, issuer reporting obligations under the Securities Exchange Act of 1934, corporate governance developments and SEC enforcement actions. Prior to serving as Counsel to Commissioner Campos, he spent five years as a staff attorney and later a Special Counsel in the Office of Chief Counsel in the SEC’s Division of Corporation Finance.

General Jim Mattis is a Senior Counselor at The Cohen Group and the Davies Family Distinguished Fellow at the Hoover Institution at Stanford University. He served as the 26th Secretary of Defense in 2017 and 2018, during which time he worked to strengthen America’s alliances and reorient the defense budget to face the rising challenges posed by emerging technologies and near-peer adversaries. During his 43 years in the Marine Corps, General Mattis served as Commander of US Central Command (2010-2013), Commander of US Joint Forces Command (2007-2010), and Supreme Allied Commander for Transformation (2007-2009). Over the course of his distinguished career, he oversaw joint efforts in Afghanistan and Iraq, helped shape US policy toward Iran, and oversaw the transformation of capabilities for the US military and NATO allied forces. General Mattis is the author of a new book, Call Sign Chaos: Learning to Lead, an exploration of his career and vision of leadership, and the co-editor of Warriors and Citizens: American Views of Our Military, a collection of writings on the state of civil-military relations in the United States. General Mattis is a member of the board of the Tri-Cities Food Bank in his home town of Richland, Washington.

Dr. DJ Patil is perhaps the most influential data scientist in the world. Having been appointed by President Barack Obama as the very first US Chief Data Scientist, he was tasked with making the largest organization in history − the US federal government − a data-driven enterprise.

Working directly with the highest ranking officials in government, DJ’s efforts led to the establishment of nearly 40 Chief Data Officer roles across a vast array of departments and programs. He helped establish new healthcare programs, including the Precision Medicine Initiative and the Cancer Moonshot, and new criminal justice reforms, including the Data-Driven Justice and Police Data Initiatives, covering more than 94 million Americans, and he led the policy efforts related to national data. DJ’s experience in national security initiatives is extensive. In recognition of his efforts, Secretary Ashton B. Carter awarded him the Department of Defense Medal for Distinguished Public Service  − the highest honor the department bestows on a civilian.

In the private sector, DJ led the product teams at RelateIQ, which was acquired by Salesforce; was a founding board member for Crisis Text Line, which works to use new technologies to provide on-demand mental and crisis support; and was a member of the venture firm Greylock Partners. He also was Chief Scientist, Chief Security Officer and Head of Analytics and Data Product Teams at the LinkedIn Corporation, where he co-coined the term “Data Scientist.” He has also held roles at Skype, PayPal, and eBay.

As a member of the faculty at the University of Maryland, DJ’s research focused on nonlinear dynamics and chaos theory, and he helped start a major research initiative on numerical weather prediction. As an AAAS Science & Technology Policy Fellow for the Department of Defense, he directed new efforts to leverage social network analysis and the melding of computational and social sciences to anticipate emerging threats to the US. He has also co-chaired a major review of US efforts to prevent bioweapons proliferation in Central Asia and co-founded the Iraqi Virtual Science Library (IVSL). In 2104, he was selected by the World Economic Forum as a Young Global Leader. He is also a member of the Council of Foreign Relations.

Thompson then played a pivotal role with The New Yorker − first as senior editor, then as editor of the magazine’s digital platform, where he helped redesign the website, launch the New Yorker app, spark an eight-fold increase in monthly readers, and quadruple the number of new digital subscribers each month (based on his editorial focus on offering loyalty to writers, diversifying the magazine’s social media presence, and publishing “more, better stories”). He is also the author of the critically acclaimed biography The Hawk and the Dove: Paul Nitze, George Kennan, and the History of the Cold War.

Earlier in his career, Thompson worked as a senior editor at Legal Affairs and as an editor at the Washington Monthly, and co-founded The Atavist, the National Magazine Award-winning publishing company which he sold to WordPress. He appears regularly on CBS This Morning and the CBS Evening News and is a contributor to the network. With a massive and vigilant following on social media, Thompson was named by LinkedIn as #4 on its 2018 list of top influencers, just behind Melinda Gates and one spot ahead of Justin Trudeau. He earned the 21st Century Leader Award from The National Committee on American Foreign Policy, was a Future Tense Fellow at the New America Foundation, and is a member of the Council on Foreign Relations. Thompson graduated from Stanford University, where he was a United States Truman Scholar. He is also an accomplished runner − currently, he is the #23 ranked master’s marathon runner in the world.

Jennifer Yokoyama is Vice President and Deputy General Counsel at Microsoft Corporation with responsibility for leading the company’s Intellectual Property Group. In her current role as Chief IP Counsel, she leads a team of more than 100 attorneys, legal professionals and engineers responsible for Microsoft’s extensive global patent portfolio, IP licensing, open innovation program and strategic collaboration with Microsoft business groups. Prior to this role, she was Microsoft’s Associate General Counsel for IP Litigation, responsible for managing Microsoft’s worldwide patent litigation docket and providing support and legal advice for her business partners throughout Microsoft as needed.

Jennifer’s experience in IP and litigation spans the globe from numerous jurisdictions and venues across the United States to countries throughout the Asia Pacific region including China, Taiwan, Korea and Japan as well as in jurisdictions throughout Europe. Prior to joining Microsoft, Jennifer was Principal Counsel for Patent Litigation at Apple Inc. Prior to that, she was Assistant General Counsel for IP Litigation and Strategy at Nike. Jennifer started her career as a patent litigator in a corporate law firm where she was a partner in the Irvine office before she made the move to in-house positions.

She is a member of the Patent Bar. Jennifer received her BS degrees from University of California, San Diego where she double majored in biology and sociology. She received her JD, cum laude, from Georgetown University Law Center.

Victoria Lee has been practicing in DLA Piper's Technology and Sourcing practice for over 17 years. Her practice focuses on representation of emerging growth and public companies in complex technology and commercial transactions in the software and semiconductor industry, as well as a variety of other industry sectors.

A significant component of Victoria's practice includes advising clients on open source business models and compliance issues and she has substantial expertise in representing both customers and service providers in cloud computing transactions. She also has significant experience assisting clients in the intellectual property aspects of buy and sell-side M&A transactions, spin-ins and spin-outs.

The respected research publisher Chambers & Partners recently recognized Victoria in Chambers USA: America's Leading Lawyers for Business. The Recorder lists her as one of the 50 Women Leaders in Tech Law 2013.
